A chiropractor’s primary focus is the treatment and management of the spine. Chiropractors are not a cure all, but they are a very important part of the Health Care team.
Allow me to start by asking you a few questions:
- Who takes care of your teeth? The Dentist, right?
- Who takes care of your eyes? The Optometrist, right?
- Who takes care of your spine?

Your spine is the control center for every function in your body. It is your lifeline. When your spine is balanced and positioned properly, it delivers maximum nerve energy and function throughout your entire body. However, when a spinal nerve that leads to your stomach for example, becomes pinched or chocked off what happens?
Blood supply gets cut off, the stomach function becomes altered, sick, and eventual disease. If this spinal nerve is cut what happens? Of course, the organ would die. What we deal with in chiropractic is the pinched spinal nerve category also called a subluxation. These can be corrected through manual adjusting techniques performed in the chiropractic office. It is interesting to consider how many people walking around thinking they have a medical condition but may in fact have a nerve related condition. You ask how is all this possible? It’s quite simple when you understand that two types of nerves enter and exit the spinal column. The first category is the motor nervous system. These nerves primarily feed the muscles, bones and joints of the body. The second category is the autonomic nervous system. These are the nerves that feed the internal organs such as heart, lungs, stomach, blood vessels, lymphatics, eyes etc. When you get a pinched spinal nerve or subluxation, both motor nerves and autonomic nerves are affected. Although you feel the effects of pinched motor nerves much sooner such as back or leg pain, the autonomic nerves (internal organ nerves) usually don’t show up until much later in the disease process. The medical research to support this is extensive and conclusive. Common questions are: Why do I always get sick?
Hippocrates, (The father of medicine.) over 2,000 years ago said this, “In all disease, look first to the spine.” This doesn’t sell many drugs, but if that shortness of breath, sudden drop in the immune system or elevated blood pressure is a nerve related problem, then spinal adjustments may save a lifetime of confusion and suffering along with unnecessary medical expenses. Of course, not every ailment is a spine related problem, but it is just sound wisdom to include spinal chiropractic care in your team of providers.
I’m not against medication, but I do have a problem with just taking medication without getting any treatment. Unrelenting muscle and joint pain for more than 2 weeks without responding to medication or other types of treatment is a strong indication of a pinched spinal nerve or subluxation.
